Culture is a value that makes every society unique. Culture comes first among the values that make a nation itself. Traditions and customs carried from the past to the present, the values belonging to the regions are the basic parts of the culture. The culture of every nation is based on their ideology. By using the language properly without damaging it, values are passed on to future generations.
In addition, each nation has its own festivals and celebrations, highlighting the ideology, clothing style, and concept. This article’s central statement is to mention the culture of Hampshire.
Hampshire is a “shire” type county in the South-East region of England. Its headquarters are in Winchester and its culture is antiquated. The county of Hampshire in England is signified by the Hampshire flag. On March 12th, 2019, it was registered with the Flag Institute.
The county is known as the home of writers Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. We are familiar with Jane Austen from her book “Pride and Prejudice”, and we are familiar with Charles Dickens from his book “A Tale of Two Cities”. Hampshire is also the childhood home of Florence Nightingale and the birthplace of engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
In terms of Art, considering John Everett Millais as a native son and L. S. Lowry and J. M. W. Turner painted scenes of the cities and countryside, Hampshire also boasts a strong visual arts history. Gilbert White lived in Selborne. Christopher Hitchens, a journalist, and social critic was raised in Portsmouth by a naval family. The county is also home to broadcasters Scott Mills, Amanda Lamb, and Philippa Forrester.
Richard Dawson, an American actor, and game show host was born and reared in this city. Born in West End, Richard St. Barbe Baker founded the International Tree Foundation and oversaw planting over two billion trees.
Once and for all, there are numerous orchestras, bands, and organizations in Hampshire. Hampshire is just where Laura Marling is originally from. The Hampshire County Youth Choir, which has its home base in Winchester, has recently enjoyed successful tours of Italy and Canada. Thornden Hall serves as the home base for the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra, along with its chamber orchestra and string orchestra affiliates.
What makes a country special is the humans and what makes it valuable and meaningful, is the place they live in and experience their lives. Culture, with its material and spiritual elements, is what holds us together as a society. They provide us with a valuable community identity, hold us together and form the social networks that unite us.
As Wendell Pierce stated: “The role of culture is that it’s the form through which we as a society reflect on who we are, where we’ve been, where we hope to be.”
